My first taste of Transylvanian hospitality was in 1970. I started from Belgrade on my motorcycle and did a circular tour through Deva, Sibiu, Călimăneşti, Mediaș, Turda and back to Belgrade. At the age of 19 I knew nothing of ţuică but enjoyed the labelless beer and a lot of cognac! 40 years later I found in Maramures, 100 miles north of Transylvania, a culture untouched by time where Horinca ( fruit brandy) production captivated my imagination. This book is the result.
